The
Dark Knight is one of the finest films ever made. Directed, produced and
co-written by Christopher Nolan. The film is the second part of Batman Begins.
It’s an entertaining comic-book movie, a compelling drama, a thrilling action
picture and a brilliant observation of the ambiguity of justice. The film
properly showed the darkness of Dark Knight while still showing the humanity of
Bruce Wayne and his struggle of carrying the weight of Gotham on his shoulders.
I
saw The Dark Knight about seven years ago. And I still remember their acting,
dialogues, the camera work, the story, everything. It is the movie worth
seeing. The way the film opens with the group of clowns robbing a bank and
during the job each member begins to kill one another one by one. The remaining
robber reveals himself as Joker. A crazy super villain.
The
stories usually focus on the journey of the main character and in The Dark
Knight the protagonist’s journey is defined by his antagonist. There’s a same
right a hero is only as good as villain and that’s true to a certain extent.
While villain contributes a huge factor to the movie it does not mean that if
he’s a well-developed character the movies going to be a winner. It’s not about
how each character is individually but how each character pays off the other.
The Dark Knight is a brilliant film due to the role Batman and Joker play with
each other and how they influence and respond to each other’s choices.
But
when I think about why The Dark Knight works so well, the answer always seems
clear the Joker (Heath Ledger). He was not a star before this movie but became
a legend after it. His acting was incredible. The way he delivers dialogues hit
a person properly. Some of his best dialogues:
“We stop looking for monsters under the bed
when we realize they are inside us”
“Why so serious? Let’s put a smile on
that face”
His
unpredictability. One minute he is hilarious, harmless prankster and the next
an inhumanly brutal savage. There has been psychopathic villain before but
there is something special about the Joker. Now, what makes him best
antagonist? How he become the perfect opponent of The Dark Knight? For that watch
the Dark Knight.
10/10
