10. Walter White
It’s difficult to portray both the chemistry teacher dad and a ruthless drug-lord at the same time but Bryan Cranston got the job done with his unforgettable performance as Walter White in the hit AMC series ‘Breaking Bad’. Set in scenic New Mexico, the series follows Walter’s journey from being a loving father and husband to a brilliant meth kingpin after he gets diagnosed with lung cancer. Aside from the show developing his turn from protagonist to antagonist; the show also shows us just how cunning and brilliant this former chemistry teacher is. Throughout the series, Walt is able to throw off his family’s suspicions, save his own life and avoid being arrested repeatedly. He’s manipulative, cunning and can plan ahead in ways that are hard for the characters or audience to predict. Plus his impressive knowledge of chemistry and science makes for him some very interesting scenarios where Walt solves his problems in creative ways. These include picking locks with homemade explosives, prying open handcuffs using a nearby copper wire, crafting explosive mercury to intimidate a drug lord and many more. Because of his cunning intellect the characters and audience are all left wondering: What will he do next?

9. Tyrion Lannister
Tyrion Lannister played by Peter Dinklage in the series Game of Thrones is one of the most charismatic characters to be played. His elegant personality makes his character probably the most loved character on the series, other than the sympathy we all have for him. Tyrion is able to mimic the person standing in front of him and speak their language. His impressive strategies and alliances make his character wise. Unlike other’s that have been on this list, his down to earth personality keeps him from getting into trouble and other characters have compassion for him.
8. Elliot Alderson
Elliot Alderson played by Rami Malek in the series Mr. Robot is the weirdest and technologically advanced character possibly made on tv. Elliot used to work in a cybersecurity engineering company alongside his childhood friend. His character has such a high IQ that he is able to hack into places without the help of softwares’ or any other mediums. Elliot has a leverage of technology and the great understanding of it to compensate for his antisocial behavior and his psychological problems. Even though the character has not be established to make the right choices or think absolutely straight, and there is a contradiction as to how Elliot’s thought process affects him in general, he has power over all things high-tech.

7. Sheldon Cooper
Sheldon Cooper played by Jim Parsons in the series The Big Bang Theory has a comically intellectual side. He is a Quantum Physicist in his late 30’s who doesn’t believe in anything but science. Sheldon Cooper’s character is made to only believe in facts and that is shown in random back flashes of his childhood as well. His gifted mind makes him skeptical of the world around him and immune to jokes and gags (which makes the series funny). His straightforward thinking and brainy personality makes his character lovable and intimidating at the same time. Many viewers find it irritable but gifted people like him actually exist.
6. Harvey Specter
Harvey Specter played by Gabriel Macht, in the series Suits, is the most charming smart character made in the world of law tv series. Many would argue that his right hand, or his understudy Mike, is far more dexterous than he is, but I beg to differ. Harvey is a lawyer at Specter-Pearson Associates, a law firm in which Harvey used to work in, is now owned by him. The cunning lawyer makes it to where he is through hard work and his high IQ. He knows what the enemy’s next move would be and plans ahead of time to counter it. Due to Harvey’s experience in the field, he is able to recognize every lawyer that passes by him. What makes his character so charming is that he has a good taste in humor and there are many times life knocks him down and he is presented with an arguably difficult choice in life, he always seems to find a way to make things work.

5. Gregory House
Gregory House played by Hugh Laurie, in the series House MD has been one of the most admired and hilarious character ever to be made. What makes his character so lovable is that House has a low tolerance of incompetency, whilst training employees under him team. He always seems to have clever comebacks when someone talks about unnecessary stuff, whether it’s a colleague or a patient. He seems to know the answer to every medical problem that is present and is able to fit all the missing pieces in highly advanced cases that he has come across. Although House has lost patience’s due to late understanding of a small details (sometimes), that doesn’t stop him from continuing to help his patients. Even though his addiction of Vicodin gets the best of him, House always seems to know the answer.

The Professor, or Sergio, played by Álvaro Morte, from the Spanish series Money Heist (Casa De Papel) has a different vibe to intellect. The professor is a mastermind behind planning a heist for years of his life, training his partners in crime in 5 months. What makes this character smart is that whatever he plans, he plans all the outcomes and consequences of his actions, despite them creating hurdles in the heist. And all those outcomes have backups of backup plans. He reads all those people who become involved in the heist and uses their skills to his advantage. The fact that the Professor planned his outcomes, a lot of things go wrong (naturally) and yet he was able to turn those events in his favor. The smartest thing that he does is pull out from the heist and take whatever he can while he still could. His character is clever, charming and humble.

Rick Sanchez, voiced by Justin Roiland, from the series Rick and Morty has been created ever so brilliantly. Even though Rick is an animated character, it doesn’t knock him off this list. There was a lot of effort and thought put into the evil scientist, who has created multi-verse of the same world. The character has an intelligence so high only the learned can pick up on his nasty humor. His understanding of philosophy, psychology, physics, autonomy, chemistry, botany, astronomy, and God knows what else makes Rick superior to all other beings in his universe and all other possible universe and multiple versions of him. He can stop time and travel through portals. His character isn’t liked by many due to his habits and lack of emotional bonding, and yet it makes many to want to have that kind of power over others.

Dr. Cal Lightman, played by Tim Roth, in the series Lie To Me has been an all time, highly advanced and qualified character to be made by American television. Lightman is a deception expert who runs his own firm with a friend. What sets this character apart from any other is that he can tell when he’d being deceived in less than a millisecond. Perhaps it’s his years of experience that makes him gifted. Other than deceptive facial expressions, he can pick up on various details that surpass the normal eye (even on camera… Tell me about it… Yeesh) that can solve the most challenging cases. And with the help of his precision to detail, he can fit all the puzzle pieces as though putting alphabets in order.

1. Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, has been labelled one of the most intellectually produced characters (initially made by Sir Conan Doyle) in the British series Sherlock. His ability to analyze a situation ahead of time due to his high IQ is what makes the character intriguing. Sherlock is perceived to be very well aware of his surroundings and those unknown to him. His eye for detail is what makes this character so superficially smart. He can withdraw as to what a personality an individual holds just by a thread on the coat, or the empty line on the ring finger. Above all, the guy has enough knowledge to destroy the world. The character’s carelessness towards emotions and irritability towards incompetency is probably why people like to idolize him.
